We've just launched a video explaining how to answer the very common "What are your strengths?" question.

This is a classic interview question that is asked in almost 100% of interviews, so you need to prepare it in order to make a great first impression. This question and can be asked in various other forms such as:
  • Why should we hire you?
  • What do you feel sets you apart from the competition?
  • What makes you the ideal candidate for this job?
  • What would your colleagues say you bring to a team?
  • Which traits do you have that make you most suitable for the role?
  • What makes you a good fit for the position?
  • How would you apply your key strengths to this position?
  • What are your strengths and weaknesses?
  • What is your greatest strength?
They’re so many versions of this question, but the trick is the answer will always have the same structure, so that’s why it’s very important to prepare this question before the interview.

In this video we'll show you how to answer "What are your strengths?" , but also how to choose your strengths for each individual interview. We'll give you 3 tips and tricks to use when answering this interview question, but also we'll teach you how to use the STAR technique in order to showcase your strengths by telling a story.

The formula we like to use for answering this question is EHS:
  • E stands for Experience, meaning that you should give your relevant industry knowledge as a strength example
  • H stands for your Hard Skills, meaning that you should give a hard skill as an example. This can be. Programming languages (Java, Python and Ruby), Qualifications, Microsoft Excel and Access, Adobe software suite, Statistical analysis, Data science, Marketing campaign management, Process modelling tools, etc. Basically those skills that you gain through your experience, education or trainings,
  • S stands for Soft Skills and some examples can be Dependable, Flexible, Great communicator, Hard worker, Team worker, Creative, Problem solver, Critical thinker, Adaptable, etc.
